Original acrylic painting of Damon Hill in his low-downforce Williams Renault FW18, on his way to winning the 1996 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.
This race was a crucial step on Hill’s march to the Formula 1 World Championship. Hill endured a tough race behind Gerhard Berger, hustling the Austrian’s Benetton throughout until it suffered an engine failure with just two laps remaining. Hill seized the opportunity to take victory.
From there, Hill maintained his composure through the remaining five races, eventually securing the championship at Suzuka. It was the culmination of years of perseverance and a remarkable season in which Hill finally claimed the title that had narrowly escaped him in 1994.
