The Brabham BMW BT52 has become famous for being the first turbo-charged car to win the World Championship and also the only championship to date for the a BMW-powered car. It was also the final title won by the Brabham team, efficiently run by three future F1 figureheads - Bernie Ecclestone, Charlie Whiting and Herbie Blash.

Driving the arrow-shaped car was Brazilian Nelson Piquet, who raced consistently to record three victories in 1983, claiming his second championship in three years.
