After a sensational season, Max Verstappen became the 34th Formula 1 World Champion in 2021. The season was a thrilling battle between the Dutch driver and seven time champion Lewis Hamilton, involving many exciting and controversial moments. After going into the final round even on points, there could only be one winner and it was Verstappen who clinched the title with a last lap overtake to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This piece commemorates Verstappen’s championship winning Red Bull Honda RB16B, as it sits on the finishing line, having just won the final round in the UAE. 2021 was also the last season before major regulation changes, including 18” tires, and this painting also features the all important wider soft tire, which enabled Verstappen to make the crucial pass on the last lap of the race.
