After two challenging seasons against the competitive combination of Michael Schumacher and Benetton, Hill finally clinched a well-deserved World Championship at Suzuka in 1996. His main challenge came from his Canadian teammate Jacques Villeneuve. Between them they won 13 Grand Prix in the beautiful (Adrian Newey designed) FW18, with Hill taking the top spot eight times.
